Summary Statement

Dvorskaya Alternative School is a non-profit (501c3) organization dba West Hollywood College Preparatory School (WHCP). WHCP combines the following educational programs: a Child Care Center for pre-school and kindergarten education, an elementary school, a fully accredited middle and high school, and a Tutoring and Counseling Center. WHCP supports year round learning through winter and summer educational camps.

WHCP’s high quality curricular program meets and exceeds California state standards. Many of our superb faculty hold advanced degrees, including several PhDs. We emphasize achievement in math and science and offer a stellar physics program. Our curriculum includes arts education at all grade levels, and strong elective course offerings.

WHCP offers students the best “cradle-to-college” education by providing a family like, nurturing academic environment with small class sizes. WHCP charts our students’ progress from early childhood through high school, and our program is responsive to children’s individual strengths and weaknesses. We support the individuality of our students, who study together each year while developing a genuine love for learning, and an appreciation for academic rigor and success.

WHCP’s international team of faculty and administration bring a wealth of experience in the best international pedagogical practices to WHCP. As a result, we serve a unique community of families and children with international backgrounds. Many of our students are immigrants or come from immigrant families, and our educational programs facilitate an effective transition for students into United States curriculum requirements. Additionally, WHCP’s highly diverse students learn from each other.

WHCP believes all children deserve access to a high quality education. Motivated students from low income families are not rejected because of their inability to pay. They receive opportunities to study at WHCP through either a full scholarship or a significant discount system.

Finally, WHCP fosters strong communication and good relationships in its school community, including between teachers and students, teachers and parents, and the school community and greater Los Angeles community. WHCP partners with the local West Hollywood city government and with community non-profits to actively involve our students in community life and civic programs. This has also proved a successful means of creating the thread that helps our families from international backgrounds to quickly adapt to American culture. WHCP truly provides the nurturing and educational experience children need to grow into productive members of society.
